Shelter Provision for the Most Vulnerable Before and During the Monsoon, Nepal

CIUD has implemented the project with support of UN-Habitat (‘from the People of Japan’ funded) in 4 districts of Nepal (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Dolakha). The project has selected the families who have been hard hit by the April 25th Gorakha Earthquake, and priority has been given to earthquake affected poor families; families with elderly, children, pregnant women; families with disabled people and women headed families.

In this project, 300 poor and earthquake affected families were also provided with Rental (Rs 13,500, with deduction of 10% tax in Rs 15,000) and Host family support (Rs 15,000). This has helped the poor and earthquake affected families sustain their lives during the period of October – December 2015.

Three Community Information Centers (CICs) have been established in Kathmandu Valley, and over 3000 households have been provided with Build Back Better (BBB) technical information along with IEC materials. This has encourage the people to step towards safer and better recovery as well as reconstruction plans.
