At a time when the whole country is expecting the political deadlock to be resolved to have a new constitution of Nepal, the youths in Khokana were inundated cleaning their ponds. Over a hundred youth participants organized the cleaning program of "Kha Phukhu" and “De Pukuh” at Khokana VDC to observe the Water Festival “Sithi Nakha” on May 27. The community in Khokana actively participated in the pond cleaning program supported by the Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) in association with World Vision International Nepal (WVIN).  (more…)

A stakeholders meeting called by the Ugrachandi Nala Village Development Committee (VDC) on 10th May 2012 decided to make the VDC an Open Defecation (ODF) Zone within 2012.  The meeting attended by the major political party representatives and the Drinking Water Supply and Sewerage Office, Kavre committed to work together to achieve the target.Acknowledging the contribution made by the Center for integrated Urban Development (CIUD) in the area, it has been nominated a member in the Village Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Coordination Committee (V-WASHCC) in a meeting chaired by the Ward Secretary of Ugrachandi Nala VDC. Sumitra Pariyar, 35, resident of Ugrachandi Nala Village Development Committee (VDC) has now her own toilet constructed at the intervention of Community led Urban Environmental Sanitation (CLUES) programme for the past six months. It was the awareness programs that led this Pariyar family to divert from open defecation to using toilet which is connected to septic tank at present as the construction of sewer systems with the treatment plant is yet to complete. She feels that this has improved her lifestyle in terms of ease of addressing nature's call and health of her entire family. (more…)
