The program was organized under the CIUD’s Urban Child-Centered Risk Mapping (U-CCRM) program which is being implemented in collaboration with Kathmandu Metropolitan City and UNICEF.

Participated by the seventh-grade students of the school, the program featured many activities like onsite demonstration on hand washing techniques, reading of UN manifesto of Global Hand washing day 2018 theme “Clean hands –a recipe for health”. The CIUD program team gave the students an orientation on the hand washing, importance of hand washing and proper techniques of hand washing. During the program, the students were also made familiar with health hazards caused by improper washing hand and not having hand washing culture at all.

The Urban Child-Centered Risk Mapping is the tool to advocate the concerned stakeholders and educate children on various risks in the areas, providing practical knowledge on water quality and water quality test using P/A vial which is used for testing of E.coli bacteria in drinking water. U-CCRM program is designed for children by making students participate in various activities such as risk identification, risk mapping, survey and in transect walk around the school for water quality sample collection. The risk map will be prepared by students at the end of the five day U-CCRM program where all the risk for the students will be plotted including all the location of collected water sample, later the risk map will be disseminated to the local government, schools and related stakeholders by the students themselves. This will support them to put their voices in front of the government officials and concerned stakeholder to immediate action and impose pressure towards the solution. Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) has been celebrating hand washing days every year with different themes in communities and the schools.
