Keep our Earth Clean even during the time of disaster

The message was clear loud and clear “Keep our Earth Clean even during the time of disaster; and use toilets to stay healthy”. CIUD stayed committed to promote WASH also at this time of disaster, and hence during 16th National Sanitation Week CIUD (5th to 11th June 2015) coordinated with District WASH Clusters of Lalitpur, Kavre and Sindhuli to celebrate the sanitation week to help the vulnerable communities.

Awareness on cleaning, use of toilets, handwashing, point of use (PoU) options, and food hygiene were among the specific targeted activities like cleaning of ruin-debris due to earthquake, MHM promotion and school WASH.

Construction and rehabilitation of temporary toilets was one of the important activities carried out during this campaigning. IEC materials, bleaching powder, piyush, ORS, hygiene kit, sanitary pads, mask and soap were distributed to the participants of the program. Over 250 people in Nala, 200 people in Dukuchap, 180 people in Godavari and 200 people in Kamalamai benefitted directly from the campaigning.

Local communities, clubs, VWESH and our partners like Water Aid Nepal, Red Cross society, Guthi, NFCC and MinErgyvolunteers provided much needed support to our Sanitation Week Celebration. Participation from district WASH cluster members and members from NGO Coalition (Alliance for Rebuilding Resilient Communities – ARRC) supported in successful celebration of 16th National Sanitation Week by CIUD. We believe that our efforts have encouraged school children, women and communities in improving their living environment even during the aftermath period of the disastrous April 2015 Gorakha earthquake. We will keep up with the good partnership to support the vulnerable communities.
