Village Maintenance Worker Training at Nala

Under financial support of Water Aid Nepal and EAWAG, Nala WASH improvement project is being implemented in Nala. The situation of sanitation in the VDC has changed drastically along with change in behavioural aspect of Nala communities after the intervention of CIUD implemented WASH project. Ugrachandi Nala was declared ODF in 22 March, 2013 and Decentralized Waste Water Treatment System (DEWATS) came into operation in the same year.

The situation of sanitation in the VDC has changed drastically along with change in behavioural aspect of Nala communities after the intervention of CIUD implemented WASH project. Ugrachandi Nala was declared ODF in 22 March, 2013 and Decentralized Waste Water Treatment System (DEWATS) came into operation in the same year. Positive attitude and overwhelming response and support from the community people have led to the success of ODF program in Nala and is now moving ahead towards Total Sanitation Concept with formation and mobilization of Total Sanitation Promotion Team (TSPT) – with the joint initiation of V-WASH-CC. As the activities of project are making headway with the WASH improvement plans, Village Maintenance Workers (VMW) training was organized on June 19 to 24, 2016.

 

 

The training was conducted for six days with theoretical session in the first three days followed by practical session in the three days. The training program was facilitated by Mr. Biswanath Shrestha, Mr. Pramod Adhikari, Mr. Jeevan Chhetri, Mr. Sudeep Ghimire, Ms. Sandhya Ranjitkar and Ms. Kanchan Shrestha of CIUD. Altogether 15 village maintenance workers from 14 water supply schemes were trained about thread cutting and joining of G.I. pipe & HDPE, pipe and different fittings (HDPE T. Reducer. elbow crossing etc) used in water supply scheme  along with the orientation on Water Safety Plan, Operation and Maintenance Fund, roles and responsibilities of users committee and Village Maintenance Workers.        

Certificates were distributed to all the participants before formal ending of training with the phrase of thanks to all by Facilitator for their active participation in the program.
