Nala receives Phase II support

An agreement between Center for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) and the Nala Integrated Development Committee (NIDC) was signed on 8th April, 2012 for taking forward the second phase of Community Led Urban Environmental Sanitation (CLUES) programme at Nala. Amidst a function, Prakash Amatya, Executive Director at CIUD signed the agreement with the committee.

An agreement between Center for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) and the Nala Integrated Development Committee (NIDC) was signed on 8th April, 2012 for taking forward the second phase of Community Led Urban Environmental Sanitation (CLUES) programme at Nala. Amidst a function, Prakash Amatya, Executive Director at CIUD signed the agreement with the committee. He stressed on the need of advocacy for the proper dissemination of the programme approach and said, “We are working on improving and strengthening our activity on effective dissemination of the project works and bringing in the local resources”.

The committee members highlighted about the issues concerning working strategies during second phase and they also expressed their satisfaction with the positive outcomes of the project. President of NIDC, Shyam Sundar Shrestha said, “This agreement has definitely opened a door for the completion of remaining works of the Nala project and it seems that our expectation of timely functionality of the project is possible. This project has undoubtedly helped in bringing about positive change in the community in terms of sanitation improvement of the community. For example: Positive attitude and perception of community people towards project, strengthening of capacity building of the committee for the management works and ability of community people to work in proper coordination and consensus are some of the positive things realized by the community.” He further added that it is actually the need felt by community people for the improvement of sanitation in their community that has motivated and developed their interest in this project. The local people even envisage integrating other water and sanitation components such as proper sewerage management, stone pavement and rainwater harvesting in order to maintain the clean environment and beauty of this traditional community.

 

The meeting constituted brief interaction with the members of committee about the ways forward. Biswanath Shrestha, project coordinator briefed about the detail budget breakdown and utilization of the project components. He informed that the support has been continued from the EAWAG to accomplish the remaining works and more additional funds will be complimented through the WaterAid in Nepal.
